  1. Film-regulation body in the USA. Officially
  2. known as the Motion Picture Producers and
  3. Distributors of America, it was created 1922
  4. by the major film companies to improve the
  5. industry's image and provide internal
  6. regulation including a strict moral code. It
  7. terminated in 1945. The office was headed by
  8. Will H Hayes (1879-1954). A Production Code,
  9. listing all the subjects forbidden to films,
  10. was begun in 1930 and lasted until 1966, when
  11. it was replaced by a ratings system.
